Privacy Policy

Benchmark is a discovery app for men’s apparel. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what we collect, why, where it’s stored, and how to remove it. We collect as little as we can to run the app, and we don’t sell your data.

What we collect, and why

Your account

When you create an account, we collect your email address and password. Authentication is handled by Supabase; your password is stored only as a secure hash, and we never see it in plain text. We use this to create your account, sign you in, and contact you about your account if needed.

Your preferences

To personalize your feed, we store the preferences you set during onboarding and in the app: your preferred brands, sizes (top, bottom, and outerwear), colors, style lean, price comfort, and your sort and filter defaults. These are tied to your account.

Products you save

When you save or watch a product, we store the brand and the product’s identifier so we can show you your saved list. This is tied to your account.

Browsing the catalog

You can browse the product catalog without an account. When the app loads products, it requests them from our server, which processes your device’s IP address to deliver the response — as any internet request does. We don’t use catalog browsing to build a profile of you, and the catalog itself contains only public product data from retailers, not personal data.

Analytics

We use PostHog(hosted in the United States) to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. We record in-app events such as: opening the app; viewing products, brands, categories, collections, and articles; tapping through to a retailer; saving a product; applying filters; signing up; and the selections you make during onboarding (which styles, brands, and price range you choose). As with all analytics events, these onboarding selections are recorded against a random device identifier, not your account. Each event includes standard technical context — device type, operating system version, app version, language and region, and a randomly generated device identifier — and PostHog may infer approximate location (city or country) from your IP address.

These analytics are tied to a random device identifier, not your name or email. We do not link analytics events to your account.

On your device

To keep you signed in, your login token is stored securely on your device using the operating system’s secure storage. It stays on your device and is only used to authenticate your requests.

What we don’t do

Where your data is stored

Your account, preferences, and saved products are stored in Supabase. The product catalog is stored in Neon (PostgreSQL). Usage analytics are stored in PostHog. All three are hosted in the United States.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen in the app. When you do, we immediately and permanently delete your preferences, your saved products, and your account itself (your email and login). This cannot be undone.

Because analytics events are tied to a random device identifier rather than your account, they are not linked to your identity and are not removed by account deletion. If you’d like us to delete analytics associated with your device as well, email us and we’ll take care of it.

Making a privacy request

To access, correct, or delete your data, or to ask any question about this policy, email support@shopbenchmark.co. We respond within 48 hours.

Children

Benchmark is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect data from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided us data, email us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we’ll update this page and its effective date. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
